  • 2003 – Giant sells Burtonsville Crossing to EDENS for $26 million.
  • 2006 – State Highway completes the Route 29/198 overpass.
  • 2010 – Giant moves across the street.
  • 2012 – Montgomery County Council approves the Burtonsville Crossroads Neighborhood Plan, a master plan amendment that changed the zoning and types of buildings that can be built in the area.
  • 2013 – State and County pass tax incentives.
  • 2015 – Montgomery County Executive awards a Request for Proposal to EDENS to redevelop the Park & Ride lot.
  • 2016 – Giant terminates their lease in Burtonsville Crossing.
  • 2017 – Burtonsville is designated a State Enterprise Zone.

Sebastian Smoot

Sebastian has been a community advocate in the Burtonsville area since 2013. He started the "Fix 198 Now" campaign and led a successful effort to convince the County Council to fund the long-awaited Burtonsville Access Road. He advocates for more investments and greater activism in the eastern part of the county through his blog, Growing East County.
