This week, we sent the following letter to Jodie McLean, CEO of EDENS, requesting a meeting to discuss the future of Burtonsville Crossing and opportunities to collaborate on a shared vision.

We will keep you updated on any response we receive.

As we move forward, we will need more committed volunteers to help us with coordinating between EDENS, the county, the state government, and the public. If you are interested in getting more involved to improve our community and #buildaBetterBurtonsville, please fill out our Volunteer Signup Form.

Excellent letter! Thanks for your diligence and advocacy. We desperately need it here in East County. Unfortunately, EDENS, Konterra, and other projects will likely not happen any time soon given the lack of jobs being produced in Maryland (D.C.’s version of East Germany). While Amazon HQ2 will help the overall region, the impact on MD will be limited to lower-end jobs by people who can’t afford to live in NoVa.
Success in Virginia is to attract new companies. Success in Maryland is to prevent current companies from moving out. MoCo is no longer a real rival to FFX Co. They’re not close.

    Sebastian and BB,

I’ve been in touch with Edens many times over the last few months. They say they are still working on attracting tenants, especially an anchor, to Burtonsville Crossing.

I’m working with the D14 team, who is hoping to secure State funding to help cover the costs of structured parking, at the Park and Ride, and I’m hoping to add some county funding for the same project to our Capital Improvement Program. We’re hoping the additional public investment will increase Eden’s willingness to make private investments, to allow additional development on the county parcels, and to make the center more attractive to tenants.

Thanks for continued support, as a resident here in Burtonsville I am hoping to see our local artisans and entrepreneurs connect to resources.
